Balormage's Holy Relic Necromancer has become one of the most dependable league starters in Path of Exile 3.27, largely because it offers strong clear, respectable boss damage, and a very smooth progression curve. The build centers on Summon Holy Relic of Conviction, a permanent minion that can't be targeted and automatically attacks whenever you do. By pairing it with Lancing Steel of Spraying as the trigger, the playstyle ends up feeling almost like a bow build, where each attack sends out wide cones of damage as the relic fires off novas PoE 1 Currency.

The core setup is simple and doesn't change much from early maps to endgame. Lancing Steel of Spraying is used purely to trigger the relic, while supports focus on poison and chaos scaling rather than raw hit damage. With enough quality on Holy Relic of Conviction, you reach important cooldown recovery breakpoints that let it attack five to seven times per second, stacking poison very quickly. That steady ramp is what carries single-target damage, while the wide novas handle clear. Defensive auras like Determination and Grace add armor and evasion, and Skitterbots help with shock and chill. For tougher bosses early on, a small secondary setup with SRS or totems can fill the gap until poison stacks fully take over.

On the passive tree, the pathing favors minion damage, poison chance, and cooldown recovery, moving through the Witch area and branching toward Duelist nodes that offer sustain and utility. Minion clusters and masteries that grant increased cooldown recovery are especially valuable, since they help hit relic breakpoints without needing extreme gear. The Necromancer ascendancy ties everything together nicely. Plaguebringer adds meaningful damage reduction, Corpse Pact helps with reservation and speed, and Mistress of Sacrifice allows offering buffs to apply to you as well, boosting block and overall survivability. Leveling is straightforward, usually starting with SRS and transitioning into the Holy Relic setup around level 50 or 60 once the key gems and items are available.

Gear is one of the biggest reasons this build works so well early. Several accessible uniques provide massive value. Geofri's Crest adds quality to the relic gem, Dialla's Malefaction can push quality even higher in the right socket colors, and Ashes of the Stars helps reach the coveted 82 percent quality breakpoint that smooths out damage and triggers. The Surrender shield is a popular endgame option, offering high block, spell block, and life gain on block, which pairs perfectly with the build's defensive layers. A fast one-handed sword with minion damage, often crafted with essences, is all you need to trigger the relic efficiently. Abyss jewels with poison chance and damage boost boss damage, while the rest of the gear can stay fairly basic with life and resistances. On a modest budget, the build handles T16 content easily, and with investment it scales surprisingly far Poe 1 Divine Orb.

Defensively, the build feels very forgiving. High block and spell block, combined with armor, evasion, and life gain on hit, allow you to ignore many dangerous map mods. Since most of the damage comes from a minion, reflect and similar mechanics are far less threatening. Minions also draw aggro, giving you more room to reposition during fights. The general playstyle is relaxed: you spray Lancing Steel into packs, the relic clears everything around you, and poison stacks ramp quickly on bosses without needing complex rotations.

For mapping and farming, the build favors layouts with good density and simple paths. Investing lightly into essences, strongboxes, and Harbingers on the Atlas provides steady currency without requiring heavy scarab usage. Linear maps like City Square work especially well, letting the relic clear efficiently while you keep moving. Progression usually focuses on hitting cooldown breakpoints early through gem quality and then stacking poison-related jewels and stats as currency allows.

Balormage's Holy Relic Necromancer remains a standout choice in 3.27 because it balances ease of use with real endgame power. It doesn't rely on constant gem swaps, expensive chase items, or complicated mechanics. Instead, it offers a consistent, low-stress playstyle that performs well in nearly all content. For players looking for a reliable league starter that can grow into a serious endgame character, it's hard to go wrong with this setup.
