RSorder OSRS: How Swapping Works in Deadman Mode

Deadman Mode (DMM) is one of Old School RuneScape's most intense and rewarding game modes. While it's temporary, the gold you earn inside Deadman can be incredibly valuable thanks to swapping-trading your Deadman GP for RuneScape gold in the main game. If you know what you're doing, DMM can be one of the fastest ways to build serious wealth.

In this guide, we'll cover five reliable money-making methods in Deadman Mode, along with a quick explanation of how swapping works so you can turn temporary profits into permanent gains.

How Swapping Works in Deadman Mode

Swapping is the process of trading Deadman Mode gold for Old School RuneScape (main game) gold. You'll find another player who wants to buy DMM GP, agree on a ratio, and complete the trade on both game modes.

Early in the season, ratios are usually extreme-something like 100 Deadman GP to 1 OSRS GP. As the mode progresses and gold floods the economy, ratios drop dramatically. Eventually, you may see near 1:1 rates or even situations where Deadman gold is less valuable than main-game gold.

Because of this, making money early is especially powerful. Even small Deadman profits can convert into large OSRS payouts if swapped at the right time.

Barrows Runs (Early, Mid, and Late Game)

Barrows is one of the most consistent money makers in Deadman Mode.

Every Barrows item has high alchemy value, meaning even the worst drops are still guaranteed cash. Best-case scenarios include high-value items like Ahrim's Robe Tops, Karil's pieces, or Guthan's armor, all of which sell extremely well early on.

The setup is simple:

Rush Barrows as early as possible

Use minimal gear (an air staff and basic spells work fine)

Risk almost nothing, since banked items are safe in Deadman's

If a PKer attacks you, escaping is easy-just dip into a crypt, and you're gone. On top of item drops, Barrows provides runes, supply drops, and points, making it valuable throughout the entire DMM cycle.

Breaches (High Risk, Massive Reward)

Breaches are one of the most lucrative activities in Deadman Mode.

These events spawn powerful NPCs that act like loot piñatas, dropping everything from rune gear and potions to exclusive Deadman items worth tens or even hundreds of millions of GP.

Key things to know:

You earn 1 point per damage dealt, up to 5,000 points per day

There are three breaches daily (at fixed UTC times)

Loot can be alched, sold, or swapped for massive profits

You can attend breaches in multi-combat (higher risk, higher reward) or singles for safer farming. Even under protection, breaches are viable, making them perfect for cheap OSRS gold newer accounts if timed correctly. Never skip breaches-they're simply too profitable.
